Here’s what’s been going on this week for me:
- 🎬 Netflix’s story of the earth, Life on our Planet narrated by Morgan Freeman, is being enjoyed by all of our family, especially my son Noah who is obsessed with Dinosaurs. This show is fascinating and really enjoyable.
- I received a delightful email from one of my students Philip Pendleton, entitled “I wrote a piano EP thanks to you”. It was an email thanking me for teaching I’m how to write piano music for sync. As a result of this teaching he has composed this stunning collection of solo piano works, Piano for British Drama, Vol.1. I am absolutely honoured that I was able to help Philip bring these stunning pieces to life.
- 💖 I’m currently obsessed with Bryan Johnson and his Blueprint protocol. When my wife Debs first mentioned his interview on the DOAC podcast I was fairly uninterested but as she shared more with me I had to look into it myself and I am hooked. We are currently finding ways to include aspects of his protocol into our daily lives (we love the light therapy and Tea tree oil).
- 🎹 I just re-released one of my piano improvisations, See Past It All, which has been refreshed and remastered and I am really proud of it. It has that lovely rough around-the-edge sound to it and yet feels warm and inviting.
- 🎯 I‘ve been thinking a lot about something Bryan Johnson said on the Modern Wisdom podcast, “talented people hit the target every time. Genius hits the target no one else can see”. It made me think about the Andrew Huang video I shared last week and how betting on yourself, and pursuing what you enjoy is incredibly scary because no one else has bet on you in the same way.
- 🎵 I finally got around to publishing my first collection of tracks on my library, Cinemalism.io. I am really happy with how they turned out; beautiful and dramatic piano tracks. Note to self: slow and steady wins the race.
- 🧘 This week I have found the pigeon pose to be incredibly helpful for relieving discomfort in my lower back, hips and legs. My back is on the mend and this is really helping (along with doing regular Dead Bugs)
- 📝 Note to self: Don‘t let yourself get distracted by what other people are doing. Stay in your own lane and focus on your greater goal, your why; to spread joy and learning through music. You don’t need to be all people to everybody. Serve your community, take care of yourself and them, and have fun doing it. Otherwise, what is the point? And remember, “Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean me first; it means me too.” – L.R. Knost
You’re the best, see you next week!
