Aside from a large amount of home renovation 👨‍🎨 and re-uploading course video files to the new platform I’ll be using from January onwards, this is how my week has shaped up:

  1. 🎸 I have been listening to a lot of ‘classic rock’ this week. It takes me back to one of my very first cassette tapes, Rock Anthems. Listening back to the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody, More Than a Feeling, Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm (a particular favourite of mine) and The Final Countdown has filled me with immense nostalgia - a wonderful mix of sadness and happiness that I really enjoy feeling.
  2. 🙊 Whilst Christmas shopping I stumbled upon a game designed by the creators of one of my favourite online comics, Cyanide and Happiness. Made me chuckle to see. This little one got me laughing for forking ages!
  3. 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Today I decided to take myself on an “artist’s date”. It’s an idea I got from Julia Cameron’s awesome book The Artist’s Way. The principle is to spend a couple of hours having a “date” with yourself (not like that!). It’s a chance for you to do something fun for yourself as if you were taking yourself on a date. I find it a really nice way to fill up my cup.
  4. 📲 I am currently taking my phone around with me with the goal of capturing ambience recordings of various public places. The aim being to use them for a free Lofi sample pack I am working on. The thing I like about this is that it gets you to listen to your surroundings in a different way, much like John Berger suggests in his book, Ways of Seeing.
  5. 🎙️ I dusted off my nylon-string acoustic guitar and recorded some simple ideas for another Lofi project. I really do miss playing real instruments. I think I need to set up my “analog desk” as Austin Kleon suggests.
  6. 🍿 For family movie night this week we watched Family Switch. It does what it says on the tin - the family all swap bodies. It’s sweet, funny and has good messages for all the family. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
  7. 👑 My kids have been obsessed with the soundtrack to the play, Six the Musical, about Henry VIII’s six wives told from their point of view. It’s actually triggered a lot of curiosity about the history of the Tudors. My wife Debs had a chat with her friend (an author on the subject) and got lots of cool facts like how calves were considered a desirable part of the body.
  8. ⌨️ After months of almost daily practice I am now touch typing these newsletters (and about 75% of my other written content). This has been something I have aspired to for some years and after using typingstudy.com and typelit.io it has finally become a reality. Still a bit clunky but I am getting better each day.

You’re a legend - thanks for reading 😄
