I don’t know what it is about change that feels equal parts frightening and exciting. Maybe it is the fact that it is something that we cannot always control.

Does this lack of control mean it is a bad thing?

I don’t think so.

I like to see change as growth.

Too often change is given a bad rap; “You’ve changed” or “You used to be so different” or “I like you how you are” - Ok that last one sounds nice but the intent is “Don’t change”.

You see I think it is one of those things we should always strive for, growth.

To learn, to broaden our minds, to explore new things, to boldly go where no man or woman has ever gone before (Sorry I couldn’t resist).

These last few years have been tremendous bringers of change for me and my family in almost every aspect of our lives.

Sometimes that has felt very scary and there has been a lot of emotion tied to this change. Other times the change felt wonderful and like a stepping off a plane in a new exotic country in full readiness for a holiday.

Now I can see that this change, both “good” and “bad” has been the opportunity to grow and to experience and to add to my life.

That rich tapestry we all weave everyday.

As me and my family embark on a new chapter with a house move, we are all feeling both thrilled and anxious as to what this change will bring to our lives.

⬆️ I’m enjoying Upload

I’m often late to these type of shows. I find out about them after a year or so and then get really excited about them only to find out that everyone else has already watched them.

This series, Upload, from Amazon Prime however I got to at season 2 and no one else I know has watched it.

I must be getting closer to being “on trend” 🤣

This show is about a future where you can upload your consciousness to a digital heaven so that after you die you can continue enjoying yourself.

We are only 1 season in but we love it. It’s smart, funny, romantic, dark, and I think scary (not horror scary just this-could-end-up-being-reality type of scary).

As a lot of you know I am not actually a fan of the type of content that my music often gets placed on. But I like the fact that this show manages to incorporate a lot of the things I love without sacrificing good writing or production.

🔊 I’m using LANDR mastering

Exploring LANDR has been on my to-do list for a while now, maybe even a couple of years. I finally got around to getting myself a subscription just to test it out really.

Anthony at LANDR was kind enough to offer my a 15% discount to my audience. If you are interested then use the code below at checkout:

GETLANDRTMS15OFF

I am yet to use this on any of my trailer music but I have been using it on my side project This Shimmering Sky. If you want to hear the results you can give them a listen on my latest single.

The thing I really like about it is how incredibly intuitive the whole process is and, if your mix is well balanced, you can get some amazing results.

🌹 I’m pondering life plans

My wife Debs and I were talking about a podcast she listens to called Slo Mo.

It’s host, Mo Gawdat has some incredible insights into many areas of life and spirituality for those alone the show is worth listening to.

Debs mentioned an episode she heard this week where Mo talks about life plans. And he said something that I think is incredibly valuable when thinking about goal setting and making plans:

(I am paraphrasing by the way, he said it much more eloquent like)

‘Think of all the best things in life, where they planned or did they just happen? Life has your back, live it and enjoy it.’

I love this and it makes me look back on my life and see those connections and wonderful things that happened outside of my endless planning.

It’s a beautiful reminder to stop thinking ahead and trying to control things. Just let go, trust and enjoy yourself.

♠️ I’m learning to read Tarot cards

When I was growing up my Grandma always had two things in her purse that I looked forward to. The first one was chewing gum, the old Wrigley strips that she would rip in half and we would share them together. The other thing she had was Angel cards.

These little cards contained advice about your day and about what you could expect from it.

I absolutely LOVED these little things.

It felt like I was actually getting advice from higher being, and that made me feel tremendously safe and looked after. As a child of divorce I really gravitated towards that feeling.

It has stayed with me my whole life. I have explored energy healing, dowsing, law of attraction and metaphysics.

Spirituality, the esoteric and the unseen fascinate me. So I decided to try to learn how to read Tarot cards as a way to reconnect to that little me who found such excitement and safety in messages from unseen worlds.

Whether you are into this stuff or not, the symbolism is fascinating as it spans across many ancient traditions Christianity, Judaism, Egyptian, and Astrological to name a few.

❝ Quote I’m thinking about…

“The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was my own fear and self-doubt-fear that maybe my work really wasn’t good enough, maybe I wasn’t smart enough; maybe the people telling me I couldn’t make it were right.”

- Octavia Butler

This is my new single from my moniker, This Shimmering Sky. This is the one I used LANDR’s mastering engine on. There’s a good story to this single and the two albums that shall follow but I will save those for another TQW issue.
