#9 - AQP2, Chillstep, New Faces & NFTs

Hey Guys

I hope you are all well and had a good week.

This week has been full of exciting news and projects coming into fruition which always makes me excited (along with a great deal many things).

Chillstep from a Violin sample?

This was one of those videos I did for my own entertainment as much as anything else. I recorded a single pluck on my violin and then proceeded to produce a chillstep track from it.

I will be creating a new moniker for my chillstep stuff (and releasing new tracks including the one you hear in the video). I really love writing in this style as I think it shares a lot of aesthetics with trailer music. Plus it is so nice to do some serious side chaining!

A Quiet Place 2

I just found out that I landed some sound design on the new trailer for A Quiet Place 2.

The really wonderful news is that the track you hear is TMS’s very own Espen Haagensli - he landed a track on the very same trailer which is HUGE!

Espen is an absolute testament to not only using your talents but also, and more importantly, pursing them and making himself useful and generally being an all round lovely chap to work with.

Those things matter as they mean that people will keep coming back to you for work. Combine that with that fact that Espen has consistently submitted new material you can see how and why he is now starting to land regular placements!

Recently, one of the students from Protege’s masterclass (and a TMS founding member) emailed me about something very interesting.

He suggested I look into NFTs.

What?

That is what I thought too. I did however take his advice and looked into it. What I discovered was a whole new world of creation and output. Essential, digital collectibles.

This excited me very much (as my student expected it would).

I’m not one to hang about so my wife and I decided to collaborate on this together; her the artist and me the composer.

What we came up with is a series of unique crypto art videos that explore the relationship between liquid art and music.

The thing that really got me excited about this is the impact it could have for royalty payouts for creators. I would suggest you look into it as it is fascinating!

February in Twenty One

The latest album of soft piano music released under my actual name. These were, like the other piano tracks, all improvisations recorded on my zoom. You know how much I stress using your limitations and embracing them. I wanted to record without my computer and this was the only way I could see myself doing that easily.

New face of the TMS YouTube channel

You may have already seen this but there is a new face on the TMS YouTube channel.

That’s right, it’s Espen!

Each week he is going to teach you how to create some new and exciting sounds that you can use to expand your knowledge of Trailer Music and hopefully increase your chances of getting noticed by publishers and then getting your tracks placed on trailers!
