#12 - Chiptune, Out-of-tune samples, Sunsets & Shining Your Light

Hey Guys

I hope you had a good week.

This week I have had a few exciting realisations all revolving around something that I always talk about.

Do the work that you enjoy and that brings you pleasure (and not what I think other people would like or that you feel you should be doing)

With that in mind, here is this week’s newsletter.

Enjoy

This Week’s Plugin - Chipspeech by Plogue

For those of you who are fans of Daft Punk, like me, then you are going to blooming well LOVE this plugin.

It’s basically a playable vocoder, well vocal synth generator type thingy and it is soooooooo much fun.

As a big fan (and producer) of synth wave, I got hold of the demo and was so blown away that I went and got the full product.

This isn’t just something that you can while away the hours with playing “Around the world” but also you can produce some amazing music with it.

If not for the extra weapon in your arsenal then you should at least check this out for something to bring back child like play into your music :D

This Week’s Inspiration

I have finally picked my running shoes back up again after quite the hiatus.

I really have missed it.

Just so you know, I am not an avid runner, I don’t run for miles and miles, I don’t enjoy races, I just like the peace it brings to my mind and the chance to get outside.

This week I ran to the next village and saw the sun setting over this field.

The photo doesn’t do it justice (does it ever?) BUT scenes like this are so crucial for creative people like us.

We crave beauty, order/chaos, vastness etc.

We need it to bring quiet and understanding.

Sometimes our problems seem so large that they almost consume us, when surrounded by space, those same problems seem to get much much smaller.

This Week’s Video

I made a whole collection of samples from a single pluck of my violin.

The only problem was that I then found out that the sample was out of tune.

And so were all the subsequent samples I then made from it.

Instead of crying and banging my fists on the floor shouting “Why!??!?!” - I figured I could make a tutorial out of how to fix this problem.

Artist Spotlight - Richard Pryn

I know what you are thinking, why is he showcasing his own work, again?

Well the thing is, I have been listening to my soft piano music when I have been going out on my runs and ego aside, they are really lovely.

The bring about a feeling of peace and make me look at the world around me with an element of awe and inspiration.

Isn’t this why we listen and write music?

To better grasp the world around us?

To translate what we see into something that we can better understand?

Thought so :)

I’m very proud of these daily improvisations and would like to share them with you guys.

You can check out the latest album of Soft Piano music here.

If you have any work you would like me to share with my awesome email subscribers then please to comment on this post and if I think it’s awesome then I’ll put your track in one of the future emails.
